I shall continue to devote the whole of my time to my official duties, whilst the whole of my salary is to be stopped until the balance of the loss is liquidated, I respectfully submit that I shall be wholly deprived of the means of maintaining myself and family during the five months that it will take to do so.
The enforcement of so extreme a measure would compel me, from absolute necessity, to seek elsewhere the means of support - to resign my present office, an alternative which it would be most painful to me to be compelled to adopt, and one which I feel sure His Excellency would not willingly force upon me after 15 years of servitude under this Government, during which time the value and meritorious nature of my varied services have frequently been made the subject of public notice.
